The distinctive, candid look of a Dan Brody portrait emerges from the partnership that develops between your family and our professional staff when planning your portrait. You’re the expert on the characteristics and dynamics of your family, and your input at the planning stage helps Dan and Marcy work effectively with your family during the actual portrait session. Dan and Marcy will also help you make choices that enhance the beauty of your portrait(s) during each step following the portrait session.

The planning and production of your
portrait(s) involves several important
meetings with Dan Brody Photography:

This planning session takes place at our studio in Bryn Mawr. You’ll have an opportunity to discuss your goals for the portrait as well as any concerns you may have. We’ll acquaint you with our procedures and help you select clothing and handle other key details (including jewelry selection, makeup, nail polish colors, glasses, toys for your children and pet preparation) that will ensure a smooth, successful portrait session.

You’ll schedule the actual portrait session at this meeting. Remember that beach portraits are available in Margate, NJ during the summer. Allow forty-five to sixty minutes and bring your family’s calendar!

This is where your advance planning will really pay off! You’ll feel well-prepared for the session, and our staff will make sure every member of your family feels comfortable. Dan’s specialty is creating casual, intimate portraits that reflect both the individual personalities of family members and a sense of your family’s special relationship, so relax and enjoy!
Allow one hour for this session.

During this exciting session, you’ll see your new portrait(s) for the first time. Dan prepares a digital slide presentation containing the best images from your portrait session and projects them onto a framed canvas on the wall. By viewing projected images on our framed canvas, you’ll be able to see how the finished portrait will actually look. You’ll also be able to compare black & white to sepia or color, and see the portrait in different sizes. Then Dan works with you to narrow your choices down to the very best image(s). Allow ninety minutes for this appointment.

During this session you’ll see an actual-size print of your portrait before it is embedded on canvas. We put this print up on our special Velcro wall to give you a good idea of how the final portrait will look at home. You’ll then have the opportunity to make sure that everything agreed on at the projection session has been accomplished—and to identify and correct anything else that comes to light at this point. (For example, a black-and-blue spot on someone’s arm that was missed earlier.) This is also an excellent time to select the perfect frame for your portrait from our extensive selection, which includes historically correct moldings prepared with 22 carat gold, and to see what the final, framed portrait will look like. Allow thirty to sixty minutes.

*Custom in-house framing is an optional service offered to our clients for Dan Brody portraits only.

At this final session you’ll get a chance to see your finished portrait and then we’ll box it up for safe transport to your home or office. All of our wall portraits are finished on canvas, which shows the artistry of your family portrait to best effect. Enjoy!
